Introducing APR's high-performance intercooler engineered to deliver impressive results for your vehicle. Our team of engineers conducted extensive testing to showcase the significant impact that the APR intercooler has on intake air temperature.
During the tests, a 2018 RS3 equipped with APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade, 95RON fuel, and no other modifications was used. The ambient conditions during the stock intercooler tests were recorded at 78.5°F and 98.06 kPa with 60.47% relative humidity. Subsequently, the APR Intercooler was tested under more challenging conditions, with ambient temperatures at 87.2°F and 98.03 kPa, accompanied by 42.18% relative humidity. This ensured that the APR Intercooler had no added advantage over the stock system during the tests.
The first test involved six consecutive dyno pulls with each intercooler. The stock intercooler struggled to manage rising intake air temperatures (IAT), leading to power-robbing heat soak. IAT started at 42°C and quickly rose to 58°C by the end of the first dyno pull. This trend continued, with the final dyno pull resulting in a staggering 70°C. In contrast, the APR Intercooler started at the same temperature and only reached 44°C by the end of the first dyno pull. It effectively dissipated heat, reaching a maximum of 54°C by the end of the final dyno pull. Incredibly, the APR Intercooler performed better after six consecutive dyno pulls than the factory intercooler did on its very first dyno pull.
Additionally, we conducted a 15-second sprint through the gears. With the stock intercooler, IAT quickly spiked from an initial temperature of 37°C to a scorching 64°C. However, the APR Intercooler proved its exceptional heat management capabilities. Starting at 38°C, the IAT dropped as low as 33°C before slightly rising above the initial temperature to 40°C by the end of the sprint. This significant temperature difference of 23°C after just a single 15-second sprint directly translates to faster acceleration and improved performance in all conditions.
The temperature disparity between the stock and APR intercooler results in noticeable horsepower gains. Whether comparing the best vs. best, worst vs. worst, or average vs. average dynos from both systems, the APR Intercooler consistently provided an impressive 26 AWHP (additional wheel horsepower) over the stock intercooler in every scenario. This makes it one of the most cost-effective hardware modifications available for this platform, highly recommended for enthusiasts at any stage.
Please note that this intercooler is designed specifically for facelift models. Upgrade your vehicle with the APR Intercooler and experience the unparalleled performance benefits it brings to your driving experience.
